Last Saturday, the German niA group + Aiva carried out a very nice project in the memorial called "Roter Ochse" in Halle. Together with a group of six Russian migrants from Wittenberg, Seb, André, Aiva and me went to Halle to visit the former prison. It was built in the 1840s in what was back then a part of Prussia and was later used by the Nazi party as well as the security service of the GDR to imprison political dissidents. People were imprisoned, forced to work and also killed in there. When a guide introduced us to the history we also got to know that it held prisoners from over twenty-six nations during all this time and that part if the prison is still in use today. After a small introduction everyone had the chance to discover the exhibtion which the museum holds on its own. We asked everyone to take a picture of something that struck/ surprised/ expressed him the most. Afterwards we collected the pictures and André went to print them out. The rest of us had lunch and started to talk about the exhibition and our impressions at first. There were a lot of questions unsettled so we talked quite a lot. Also the participants were very interested in the topic and had a lot to say about their feelings. Later everyone showed their picture to the group and explained why they chose it. We found some conclusions about what are the most important values of democracy today and how we want humans to be treated, even if it is in a prison. In the end everyone wrote a little bit about their picture or drew something so that we all could create a wallpaper about the whole project of the day. I am sure André will provide a picture of it soon. We haven't settled the question of where to use the wall paper yet but maybe you can help us with this question. Afterall it was a very nice project which was international as well since we had Germans, Russian  migrants and a Lithuanian guy in the discussions. We all agreed afterwards that we were very happy about the project and the outcome and especially about the teamwork. Thanks to everyone.

Hey guys,

I don't know why but I woke up today with a nice idea for niA 2011. Here it is. Don't forget to tell me what you think about it and add some ideas of your own.

Getting to know

  • in preparation for next niA

  • each participant gets a “partner”

    ? he/ she doesn't know him/her before

  • they get contact data from each other

  • they have to find out sth. about the partner participant and his home country, home town etc.

    ? prefer fun facts

  • findings are presented in a national preparation meeting

  • national group prepare a creative presentation (song, video, comic, collage) about their “partners”

? presentation in the beginning of the first network meeting of next niA

Why civil disobedience?

In the political since and in the policy of countries is comming everytime again a discussion.

Is civil disobedience nessesary for a democrazy or a crime or or or ....?

We will not answer this question here, but for us it is important to collect some motivations for civil disobedience to get a personal view on this possibilities of political participation.

We will use one of the biggest event in this direction in Germany.

It happen every year in Febuary.

Short backround:

Dresden was an strategic military piont in the 2 world war, thats why it was bombed, many people died and so on.

More interesting today is that every year the nationalists and fascists try to make a huge memorial event for this historical fact.

Thiere event is legalice by the city. What is normaly a demonstration through the city of Dreseden

But many people does not agree with the memorial event and try to block this demonstration, because of security question the city does not legalize this blocking action but normaly tollerate them. (What is a classical case of civil disobedience)

We want to visit this event on the 19th Feburay in Dresden and get an own impression about it.

Yesterday we sent an application of our project to a contest for youth work of the organisation "freistil". Now a jury will decide about which project is the best in their opinion. So wish us luck that we will win a price. I will keep you informed.
